We went to hear j.’s 2 hour show. He played a song called “Ari 6” . He played A.’s birthday party through his guitar, distorted. The only words I could make out were “happy birthday” and in the middle of the song where Ari exclaims, “Mommy!” j. was upset because he saw me in a corner of the gallery on the cellphone during the song but it was because I had called ari to hear it! there was lots of jazz discussion afterwards with some well known local jazz-guy but we were tired and bored.

Strange conversations with paramedics. I swear one of them started singing Aretha Franklin to me. He said, “you have a black cat named Nina, I have a black cat named Nina, it’s so exciting to meet someone else who does.”

I may have accounted for my malaise and general sleepyheadedness. I’m anemic! It’s odd to be excited about that but there’s an explanation, it’s not just me. I started taking vitamins a couple of days ago and I swear the usual bruises (from lack of iron or is it vitamin k?) are disappearing practically overnight.

I met an elderly woman who asked me my name and when I told her she sounded like she was going to cry and said that it was her sisters name, she died when she was six months old. She told me that her name was Dona, that she spelled it with one d like in Dobie Gillis. I didn’t quite catch that reference despite having watched the show on Nickelodeon.
